Singer-songwriter Jewel shines a spotlight on childhood hunger

Recording artist Jewel is no stranger to success.  Her albums have gone platinum, and she’s been a household name for over a decade.  What few realize is that Jewel is also no stranger to food insecurity.  Growing up, Jewel was homeless for a year, and experienced hunger on a regular basis.  She resorted to shoplifting when the food ran out at home.
“We come together when times are hard.  Hope is a spark, and it's up to you to get that spark into a fire and a movement.  It takes action,” says Jewel, who has decided to take action on the issue closest to her heart by becoming the spokesperson for the Conagra Child Hunger Ends Here campaign to shine a spotlight on this critically important issue.
As part of the campaign, the four-time Grammy winner has recorded an original new song entitled “Here’s Hope.” Fans can download the song by entering a code from participating ConAgra Foods’ brands at ChildHungerEndsHere.com.  Information and ways to help fight childhood hunger can also be found on the site.
Currently more than one in five American children experience hunger on a regular basis.  Jewel hopes that through community efforts and neighbors helping neighbors, an end to child hunger is in sight: "You have to focus on what's possible, and those are the things that are like little rungs on a ladder, and they end up pulling you up.”
